Born in 1952 in Athens, Christoforos Balabanidis moved from decoration and craftsmanship into painting, studying under Theodoros Pantos at the “Veloudaki” studio from 1982 to 1985. Drawing on De Chirico, Picasso and Rembrandt, his fantastical landscapes blend everyday objects with geometric forms. A 2000 walk through Piraeus’s Perama district, past the massive structures of tankers, turned ships into a central subject of his work. A member of the art collective “SYN” since 1982.
